Carnegie Hall with Kids

Hi,

What is traffic like around that area and how long should we allow for a cab ride?
Assuming we eat somewhere around Carnegie Hall I suppose we could walk ,but
if it's a bit farther out - Upper West Side or Times Square -- what can we expect?

Please help.
